This story was written when I lived in Germany in 1992. I sent it to Paramount and it came back, date stamped November 25 1992, with a polite rejection letter. I felt very sad about the rejection at the time, but I know I'm in very good company :)
I transcribe it here, just as it appeared, in script form, in the offices of Paramount
FON, a Ferengi DaiMon ( x 50 words)
THE ASSAILANT, (visual FX only, no on-screen talent)
Data's cat, SPOT (a small speaking part.)
1 INT. ENTERPRISE. THE BRIDGE
Riker is in the Captain's chair, Troi and Worf are in their usual places. Data is not present, neither is Picard. All eyes are on the front screen, which, after a slow pan, we see bears the image of Ferengi DaiMon Fon.
You would do well to take us up on our offer, Commander. I have had...experience in this part of the galaxy.
And I have had experience with the Ferengi, DaiMon Fon.
Nothing is without cost, Riker. You may find that you must call on us to help you.
Thanks, Fon, but no thanks. We can't afford your help. Your gifts tend to come at a very high price.
Every man has his price, Riker, but it isn't always money.
With that the transmission ends, Riker and Troi exchange a look.
2 INT ENTERPRISE CORRIDOR
Picard is there, and one or two crew members going about their business. Picard pauses by one of the computer panels, waiting till the corridor is empty. There is something furtive about his behaviour. He activates the panel.
Computer locate Commander Data.
Lieutentant Commander Data is in Engineering.
Picard continues down the corridor to the turbolift. His is looking tense. we follow him into...
3 INT ENTERPRISE. TURBOLIFT
Deck nine. Officers' quarters.
He rides for a few seconds and the lift stops. We follow him out...
4 INT ENTERPRISE. CORRIDOR
Still with Picard. He stops before a door. Again, there is the furtive behaviour and the tension, building now so that his breathing is becoming rough and shallow, he is clearly nervous. He steps up to the door.
Lieutenant Commander Data is not in his quarters. Access denied.
(glances nervously about)
This is Picard, Jean-Luc. I order manual access.
Voice print verified.
The door opens and Picard steps into...
5 INT ENTERPRISE DATA'S QUARTERS
Data's cat, Spot, is curled up on a chair. He rises to greet his guest with a "meow" but Picard ignores him. Picard goes straight to a work bench with storage drawers under it.
Up close we can see that Picard is really sweating on this. His hands shake as he opens one drawer after another, he is looking for something. With each failure to find it he becomes increasingly desperate and nervous.
Suddenly he stops, one drawer open.
Closeup on Picard's face, we see fear and rage. He reaches in and lifts out the bionic arm he wore as Locutus. For a full second he holds the arm, looking at it, and then he flies into a arage, smashing the arm repeatedly on Data's work bench.
At the height of Picard's rage, Data enters. He is surprised only for a moment, and then grabs the Captain, overpowering him easily and gently, pinning Picard's arms to his sides with one arm and still having one free hand to tap his communicator.
(still struggling, distraught, irrational)
No! I have to destroy it!
Sickbay this is Data. Doctor Crusher requred in my quarters immediately.
6 INT ENTERPRISE. SICKBAY
Crusher and Troi are standing beside Picard, who is lying on a diagnostic bed, with the shell down over him. His head is rolling and his eyes are blinking as though he is fighting sleep.
The sedative will calm him down, but you won't be able to speak with him till it wears off, Deanna.
Keep the restraints on him, Doctor. I am very concerned that in his present state he may try to harm himself.
Data, what exactly was the Captain doing when you found him?
They move away from Picard as Data speaks, going out of shot, into another part of Sick Bay, perhaps Crusher's office.
He was attempting to destroy a part of the bionic apparatus that way attached to Locutus.
That incident did some serious damage to the Captain's psyche.
We pan across Sickbay, past PIcard's recumbent form past the diagnostic beds, to the door.
But I thought he was cured.
(her voice faces as the door to Sickbay opens)
It's not that simple, Data. We can't just dump his memory and start again...
Worf enters, moving stealthily, there is a phaser in his hand. He creeps to hwere PIcard is lying. Picard, aware that someone is there, forces his eyes open.
This is not personal, Captain, it is simply a question of honour. As a Klingon I have my dignity to consider. It is not possible for me to serve under a captian who is a coward.
Worf aims the phaser point blank at Picard...and fires.
